Meet the SES Staff
John Macon Gillespie
John Macon is a student at the University of Mississippi and has served as SES Mississippi's Editor-In-Chief since November 2018. A graduate of the Vardaman High School Class of 2016 where he earned valedictorian and STAR Student honors, John Macon grew up in a small-school football setting in the Magnolia State. He still serves as the public address announcer for Vardaman Rams football and has held the title of "Voice of the Rams" since 2014. John Macon also does work for the sports desk of The Daily Mississippian—the student newspaper at Ole Miss—and Mississippi Millennials—an online publication directed at college students in the state.
Assistant Editor of Divisions and Features
A graduate of the Oxford High School Class of 2017, Jared has been a part of SES since 2016. Jared is now a student at the University of Mississippi and has previous experience at The Oxford Charger—the student newspaper of Oxford High School—and has work regularly published in The Daily Mississippian and The Oxford Eagle. Jared has also handled public address duties for Oxford athletics in years past and has a special focus on feature stories published by SES Mississippi.
Assistant Editor for Game Content
Mack is a 2016 graduate of Water Valley High School and is furthering his education at the University of Mississippi where he is studying sports promotion. Mack has experience keeping stats for the Water Valley Blue Devils, and his knack for numbers and matchups gives him his title of Assistant Editor for Game Content. He has also worked for The North Mississippi Herald newspaper in Water Valley as well as The Daily Mississippian and has been a part of SES Mississippi since 2017.
A senior at Oxford High School, Walker is the second member of the SES staff who calls Oxford home. Walker joined SES in the fall of 2018 and also works for The Oxford Charger and The Oxford Eagle.
Graphic Designer & Staff Writer
A student at Mississippi State University, Cal is a graduate of the Bruce High School Class of 2016 and joined SES Mississippi in 2018. Cal has done graphic design and social media work for Bruce Trojans football in the past and carries these talents, along with his newfound love of journalism, to the ranks at SES.
