Will Rogers passes himself into 2019 Elite 10
The Brandon Bulldogs are typically known as a consistent high school football program in the state. This year, they will also have one of the top quarterbacks.
On July 1, Will Rogers was named as the fifth member of the SES Mississippi Elite 10, marking the halfway point of this year’s edition.
“It is a huge and tremendous honor,” Rogers said. “Being named one of the top 10 players in the state is truly amazing.”
The Elite 10 is put forth by the staff of SES Mississippi each offseason, spanning a 10-week period from early June to the first Monday of MHSAA fall practice. A new member is announced at 10 a.m. each Monday morning. Rogers joins Madison Central’s Jimmy Holiday, Greenville St. Joseph’s Dillon Johnson, George County’s McKinnley Jackson and Oxford’s JJ Pegues on this year’s installment.
In 2018, Rogers had a QBR of 96.5, throwing for over 3,000 yards with 23 touchdowns, along with four touchdowns on the ground. For his career total, Rogers has 5,485 yards through the air with 41 touchdowns, and his senior season has yet to kick off.
For Rogers, there is only one goal he has in mind for his senior season.
"[I have] one goal and one goal only, and that is to win a state championship," Rogers said.
Back in January, Rogers committed to Mississippi State, but he still has one more year of his recruitment, and he gave his thoughts on the process.
“I think I’ve handled it pretty well,” Rogers said. “I’m so blessed, humble and thankful to be in this position.”
As he goes into his final season with Brandon, Rogers named a few things that have helped him become who he is today.
“First thing I would say is just keeping God first,” Rogers said. “Through the ups and downs on Friday nights, God is still always good. The next thing would definitely be my work ethic and the teammates around me.”
The sixth member of the 2019 Elite 10 will be announced on July 8 at 10 a.m.
