Ashton Nickelberry (WR, Brandon)

vs. Terry (W)

Receiving: 8 rec, 113 yards, 4 TD

Elite 10 quarterback Will Rogers had himself another solid game with 329 yards passing. His favorite target was a big part of that. Nickelberry was just too much for the other group of Bulldogs to handle as Brandon came away with a convincing region opening W. They get to face George County this week, who is coming off of an upset win over Oak Grove.

Fred Watson (LB, Lake Cormorant)

vs. Center Hill (W)

Defense: 16 tackles, 3 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries, pass breakup

The Gators have always had that one defensive player that can change the game defensively. Here is that guy this year. In addition to stealing three possessions, he was everywhere around the football. Lake Cormorant did not allow a touchdown and will look to do the same next week against New Hope, although it may be difficult.

Jacolby Williams (ATH, Baldwyn)

vs. Thrasher (W)

Recieving: 3 rec, 118 yards, 2 TD

Defense: INT (43-yard pick-six)

Its not everyday that you see someone score points on both sides of the football like this. In a dominant 61-0 win over Thrasher, Williams made the most of his catches when targeted. The Bearcats will host Coldwater next week.

Jakorian Newsome (LB, Petal)

vs. Pearl (W)

Defense: 21 tackles

On the scoreboard, it looked as if the Panthers didn’t have their best defensive game. But let’s be real, its so tough to defend that Pearl offense. Newsome was one that played his heart out and his team hung on to upset the Pirates 38-37 in overtime. Petal will have another big task ahead of them this week at Oak Grove.

Ahmad Johnson (ATH, Pelahatchie)

vs. Jackson Academy (W)

Passing: 1/1, 16 yards, TD

Rushing: 24 car, 424 yards, 5 TD

Receiving: rec, 9 yards

Defense: 5 tackles

For reference, most teams have less total yards of offense than Ahmad Johnson in rushing yards this past Friday. Let that sink in. Johnson did pretty much everything he was asked to do and it paid off for his team as they defeated the Raiders in a big program win for the Chiefs. They get to travel to Riverside this week.

Other Notables:

John Meagher (QB, Oxford) vs. Southaven

Passing: 8/15, 122 yards, 3 TD

Rushing: 14 car, 144 yards, 2 TD

Khi Holiday (QB, TCPS) vs. Noxapater

Passing: 18/31, 226 yards, 3 TD

Rushing: 26 car, 167 yards, 2 TD

Trip Wilson (WR, Tupelo) vs. Hernando

Receiving: 6 rec, 163 yards, 3 TD

Ty Walton (QB, East Union) vs. Hatley

Passing: 20/35, 329 yards, 4 TD

Xavier Evans (QB, Laurel) vs. South Jones

Passing: 8/13, 262 yards, 3 TD

Rushing: 7 car, 130 yards, TD
