McKinnley Jackson rides gridiron momentum to 2019 Elite 10
Within the defensive line for the George County Rebels, there is one individual that separates himself from the rest.
On June 17, McKinnley Jackson was named as the third member of the 2019 SES Mississippi Elite 10, the first defensive player named to this year’s edition.
The Elite 10 is put forth by the staff of SES Mississippi each offseason, spanning a 10-week period from early June to the first Monday of MHSAA fall practice. A new member is announced at 10 a.m. each Monday morning. Jackson joins Madison Central’s Jimmy Holiday and Greenville St. Joseph’s Dillon Johnson on this year’s installment.
In 2018, Jackson led the Rebel defense, tackling 91 ball carriers with 32 of those resulting in a loss of yardage along with 11.5 sacks and three forced fumbles. Not only is he considered as one of the top players in the Magnolia State coming into his senior season, but also one of the best defensive tackles in the country.
“It’s just a blessing, man,” Jackson said. “Just a result of all of the hard work I’ve put in. I gave the input, and this is the output.”
Jackson currently has 20 Division I scholarship offers including Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Alabama. It is safe to say that Jackson will have plenty of options when National Signing Day comes around.
“As of right now, I’m going on all of my visits,” Jackson said. “Observing each school, seeing what they have to offer for me and finding out which one is the best fit for me.”
Jackson believes that the best way to go about his senior season this fall is to just simply be the best player he can be for the team, the community and for the young children that look up to him and that the rest will all work out.
The next member of the 2019 Elite 10 will be announced on June 24 at 10 a.m.
