Editor's Mailbag: Week 2
Welcome to the Week 2 edition of the Editor's Mailbag presented by G's Place in Vardaman, Mississippi, where I answer questions posed to me on Twitter by you, the fans.
We experienced a great (albeit wet) Week 1 of action in the Magnolia State, and Week 2 is shaping up to be equally as entertaining. With that being said, let's jump into the questions.
Will it play? (@WebbLewis21)
I say "that'll play" as a response to almost anything, whether it be sports-related or not, so therefore, yes, it will play. Thanks for asking.
Can Utah win the College Football Playoff? (@WalkerBaileySES)
In short, no, I don't think they can win it, but I do think they can make the cut.
I think you're going to be hard-pressed to find any team that can top Alabama or Clemson, and I just don't think the Utes have the horses to make it happen. They should be an interesting team to watch this season, however, and their season starts tonight against the Cougars of BYU, a game which I expect them to win handily.
Which of the three @SESMississippi Top 10 matchups will likely be the most interesting to watch? (@RowdySES)
While all three of this week's Top 10 matchups will be fun, I expect Madison Central-Brandon to provide the most entertainment. Two electric quarterbacks squaring off for the top rank in the state. It doesn't get much better than that.
Whose sandwich is better: Popeye's or Chick-fil-a? (@CalBrownSES)
I'll admit it: I haven't attempted to brave the long lines at Popeye's to try their chicken sandwich. However, I've always preferred Chick-fil-a over Popeye's, and I believe its chicken is just higher quality. Since Chick-fil-a has been doing chicken sandwiches forever, seemingly, I find it hard to believe that Popeye's could usurp that title from them. Give me Chick-fil-a.
Would a team that fields 11 John Macon Gillespies on each side of the ball win a single game in MS 4A high school football? (@nategabler)
Absolutely not. I'm not athletic in any sense of the word and haven't played organized football in about eight years. This team would be a media member's dream, though, and would give great quotes about how bad we were.
Who is the top RB in the state? (@JWillSES)
We named three running backs to the SES Mississippi Elite 10 this summer, so I'll start there.
While it's hard to put one of these names above another, early results indicate that it could be Kenyatta Harrell out of Pearl. He put on a clinic against Clinton last week, and I expect that trend to continue this season. South Panola's Janari Dean and Greenville St. Joe's Trey Benson are close on his heels, though.
Picks against the spread for State, Ole Miss, Bama and Auburn this week? (@kbrass96)
Mississippi State (-20.5)
Ole Miss (+5.5)
This may blow up in my face, but oh well.
Best Taco Bell menu item? (@HannahGNewbold)
In any Mexican restaurant, I go with the chicken quesadilla, and Taco Bell is no exception, although the Doritos Locos Taco is phenomenal, as well.
