Rowdy's Roundup: Postseason edition No. 2
Alright, roll call!
6A! Here. 5A! Here. 4A! Here. 3A! Here. 2A! Here. 1A! Here. MAIS! Here.
That’s right folks! For all Mississippi high school football teams that remain, it is win or go home. It’s PLAYOFF TIME, BABY!
Just like last week, let’s highlight a few notable games from each classification.
Madison Central - 35
Oxford - 3
So what was the message that the Jaguars sent to Oxford this past Friday night? Welcome to 6A playoffs.
Jimmy Holiday went off and Madison Central dominated for 48 minutes. Who’s next for the Jags? *looks at bracket* *drools* oh boy… it is Northwest Rankin again. Remember when these two faced off just a few weeks ago? Let’s see if this one can be as thrilling as that one.
Brandon - 31
St. Martin - 28
That was Brandon after this nail biter. Boy, did the Dogs receive a scare or what?
The game rested on the leg of Mason Walker and he delivered. Now Brandon awaits… Dirt Bowl? Didn’t that already happen?
Ohhhhh ok, they have to play again. Can Pearl get revenge from a few weeks ago? Grab the popcorn.
Olive Branch - 24
Neshoba Central - 20
It’s a shame that one of these two teams had to lose this one.
It’s okay Neshoba Central, you ran into a loaded, talented team. The Conquistadors held off a comeback at the very end and live to play another day. Against who though? The Holmes County Central Jaguars! Yes, another loaded, talented bunch. Let’s have sone fun, folks!
Lafayette - 40
Germantown - 13
We don’t know about y’all, but we think Lafayette wants West Point again…
They made that statement loud and clear in Madison. Oh yeah, this was also Lafayette’s first 5A playoff win. Well done ‘Dores!
E10 member Brandon Turnage provided a big spark and Lafayette took advantage of their business trip. Up next? Refer back to the first sentence of this brief.
Greenwood - 20
Noxubee County - 0
Aaaaaaaaaand, down goes the defending 4A champs!
Greenwood made all of us at SES eat our words. They played their heart out. This is the earliest exit for Noxubee County since 2006. Just wow.
The Bulldogs will look to keep things rolling at Corinth. This one should be good. Key word: should.
East Central - 17
Greene County - 7
*drums* DEFENSE *drums* DEFENSE *drums* DEFENSE
We got that down south. The Hornets just squeaked by the Wildcats to keep a trip to Hattiesburg going. West Lauderdale is coming to town next. 4A south could get real interesting, folks…
Water Valley - 41
Booneville - 14
Booneville has a perfect season, they won’t get upset by a lower seed!
*Tay Rucker enters the room*
Rucker: “Oh yeah? Watch this…”
He played a big role in proving the whole SES crew right. Rucker scored FIVE TDs and his defense absolutely lights out. They are now the “1” in Booneville’s 11-1 record. Now that they shut down Dallas Gamble… they now have to shut down Jalen May at Houston. Here we go folks…
Jefferson Davis County - 53
Velma Jackson - 14
Look guys, don’t mess with Lance Mancuso in the postseason… just don’t.
The Jaguars are still alive in their quest for another ring. Now they’ve beaten two very quality opponents in the playoffs and have another one coming up in Columbia. This should be interesting.
Philadelphia - 39
East Webster - 19
*JMake/Jared/Walker to JL and Mack: “Told y’all.”*
The Tornadoes have looked pretty impressive. Those Wolverines from East Webster are no slouch. You know who else is no slouch? The Calhoun City Wildcats.
Remember the slobber knocker between these two teams midway through the regular season? JMake and Jared do at least. Round two, boys! Let’s go!
Eupora - 27
Lake - 0
It’s almost as if Eupora heard JMake.
The Eagles had little problems with handing those talented athletes from Lake. Pretty impressive, we might say. Look at who’s next: them boys from Scott County. This could be a dog fight. Let’s see.
Simmons - 58
TCPS - 23
Look TCPS, we at SES all picked Simmons to win, but it is not because we didn’t think y’all had a prayer to win this one. Shoot, they scored 23 points on the Blue Devils. They were the only team all season to score double digits on them.
This is win No. 52 in a row for Simmons. They now get to face one of the biggest stories of the 2018 season: Biggersville. It’s David vs. Goliath. Who will come out on top?
Okolona - 24
Ray Brooks - 16
This one was hard to pick for some of us. Turns out that Jared, Walker, and Mack were right. Okolona looks like a team that can seriously make a state title game. However, they have to go through Smithville next. It won’t be easy.
Jackson Prep - 42
Jackson Academy - 21
Stop us if you’ve heard this before: Jackson Prep is going to play for another state title.
*Everyone stops us*
So… yeah, they are… again.
Jackson once again handled their rivals across the river and will take on MRA for the AAAA-I title. Hold up now, remember when these two teams last played? Yeah. That happened.
Will it be yet another trophy for Jackson Prep? Will there be a new champion? Let’s find out!
