Rowdy's Roundup: Week 5

Yeah, we know that a lot of teams rested this week, but there was still football games being played Friday night. Some of those games included teams from our Top 10, including one MASSIVE Top 10 vs. Top 10 clash.

Let’s see what the few Top 10 teams did in Week 5!

#1 Starkville - BYE

You can all rest easy guys… for now. The Yellowjackets will host on Provine next week.

#2 Horn Lake - 58

Lake Cormorant - 9

Woah.

The Lake Bowl trophy will remain at Horn Lake for the third straight year. The better team showed itself early and often throughout the night.

Up next for the Eagles is a trip down to Batesville to take on the Tigers of South Panola. The region opener last between these two teams was a lopsided Horn Lake W. Will it happen again this year? Let’s see.

#3 Hattiesburg - BYE

That high flying offense took a break this week. Hattiesburg will face Gautier to begin region play next week.

#4 Northwest Rankin - 13

#6 Brandon - 34

Cross-town rivalries… LOVE IT!

The game was pretty much controlled by the home team Bulldogs for 48 minutes. They got momentum early and never looked back. Dallas Smith got a few TDs on the ground and the Will Rogers-Jonathan Mingo tandem did it’s thing.

Hold up, before you move on to the next team, let us look at Brandon’s defense. Do you realize what they did to NWR? The Cougars averaged 47 a game coming into this one. Brandon forced turnovers and frustrated P.J. Lindsey of all people. That is hard to do.

#5 Clinton - BYE

The Arrows are still undefeated. They have to rest up this week before traveling to The Jungle next week to take on rival Madison Central.

#7 Oak Grove - BYE

Yes… another off week.

The Warriors ran into a juggernaut *cough cough* Hattiesburg last week. They got to correct their mistakes this week while having more time to prepare for their region opener against George County.

#8 West Point - 41

Noxubee County - 0

The system has been rebooted. The program “WestPointWinningStreak.exe” has relaunched… for now.

While it did take a little bit for the Green Wave to bust it open, there was just too much for the former Top 10 member to handle. Brandon Harris found the end zone a couple times and Jake Chambless had a few TD tosses.

The Green Wave should have their hands full with the ‘Dores from Lafayette coming to town next week. It will be 5A perennial power vs. a possible rising 5A power… buckle up guys.

#9 Tupelo - BYE

Hey guys, guess what? ANOTHER OFF DATE. Honestly, it is hard to think of any team that needs this bye week more than these guys. It has been a rough four weeks for the Wave, but hey, they are still 3-1!

The injury bug has been around this team since the beginning of the season. Some of those key players are back, but not quite at 100 percent. Tupelo will begin region play next week, hosting the Hernando Tigers.

#10 Meridian - BYE

We…have…another…bye…week…

The ‘Cats are 2-2. Do not let that .500 winning percentage fool you. They have played one heck of a non region slate. Meridian will kick off region play on a Saturday night against Jim Hill.
