Coverage Breakdown: Water Valley @ Yazoo County
Players To Watch
Water Valley Blue Devils
Kenterrious Rucker | RB
The Junior tailback has been huge for the Blue Devils recently, stepping up when Trenderrious Brock went down with an injury in their 51-26 win over M.S. Palmer. He helped lead their unbelievable comeback against South Pontotoc last week, finishing with 270 yards rushing on 27 carries with a whopping 5 touchdowns. They will need him to be big again tonight, if Water Valley wants to defeat Yazoo County and move on to the next round of the MHSAA 3A Playoffs.
Martavius Rockett | WR/Athlete
Martavius has been a player to watch in every Water Valley game we've covered this season. He is one of the most explosive players in Mississippi with the ball in his hands. Rockett is having a great sophomore season, leading the Blue Devils with 1,265 all purpose yards and he's found the endzone 11 times( 6 receiving, 4 rushing, and 1 Interception return).
Nate Murphy | DE
Murphy has been a force on the Blue Devils defense this season at defensive end, he is second on the team with 9.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. At 6'4 185lb, he is an athletic defensive end, so Water Valley will need him along with others to have a big game against Kenny Gainwell and the Yazoo County offense.
Yazoo County Panthers
Kenny Gainwell | ATH
Mr. Football in 3A, Gainwell has led the Panthers to their (11-0) record with an outstanding Senior season. He has 2,220 yards of offense and 33 touchdowns. Gainwell does most of his damage on the ground, with nearly 1,500 yards rushing to lead the Panthers and an eye popping 25 rushing touchdowns. A big performance from Gainwell will be key for Yazoo County to advance to the next round.
Devarrio Sanders | RB
Sanders is the Panthers second option offensively, he is second on the team with 803 rushing yards on only 69 carries and 10 touchdowns. Sanders adds another problem for opposing teams that try to focus on stopping Gainwell.
Kenderian Dixon | LB
Dixon is the leader of Yazoo County defense that is only giving up around 8 points per game. He leads the team with 112 tackles, 22 for loss. They will need Dixon to step up in the run game, to try and slow down Water Valley's Rucker who is coming off of a 270 yard performance against South Pontotoc.
Keys To The Game
Rushing attacks- Both of these teams love to pound the ball on the ground offensively. Yazoo County averages 297 yards a game on the ground, while Water Valley averages 199 a game. Which rushing attack with have more success tonight, Gainwell and the Panthers or Rucker and the Blue Devils?
Turnovers- One of the biggest keys to winning in the playoffs, is taking care of the football. Which defense can come up with a couple more big plays to get the ball back to these prolific offenses?
Homefield- The Panthers have the advantage of playing at home, where they are 5-0 this season. 3 of the 4 Water Valley losses' have come on the road this season. Can they come on the road and upset the Yazoo County Panthers and advance to the semis of 3A North?
Kenny Gainwell- Kinda hard to pick anyone besides Gainwell, the Memphis commit has lead the Panthers all season and he'll look to continue their undefeated season tonight against a relentless squad in Water Valley, who should give the Panthers the toughest test they've faced all season.
