Calhoun City cruises past Lake in first round of the playoffs
Calhoun City began its quest in the opening round of the 2A playoff to do what it did last fall and win a State Championship. The Wildcats (9-2) would add two late scores and put away the Lake Hornets (8-3) and advance to the second round of the playoffs and a 32-6 win. With weather playing a major role across the state, Calhoun City will face the winner of the East Union vs South Delta winner. The game was suspended due to weather and will resume today at 5 p.m. On the Wildcats opening possession, Treshon Cooper took a sweep to the outside for 66-yards and a score. Keshun Parker would scamper in and add the two point conversion and the route was on, right? Credit the Hornet defense. Following an Anfernee Campbell interception for the Wildcats, Lake held the Wildcat offense and forced a punt. The Hornets then mounted a 67-yard drive, capped off by a Mickey Parker to Zywon Ledbetter 57-yard pass with 10:01 to go in the first half. Unfortunatly for the Hornets, that would be the only bright spot as the Wildcats came to life. After both team exchanged a few punts, senior quarterback Jo Gray threw to Cooper for a 30-yard score and the route was on. The score occured with just :30 left in the first half and all hopes of a Hornet comeback would be lost. With a 16-6 Wildcat lead taken into halftime, 'City would score on runs of 5 and 35 yards to seal the win. Chadatious Hill put a bow on the win grabbing a Hornet interception late in the fourth quarter.
