Catching Up With Onias Parks

SES: You guys are off to a 4-1 start, and 1-0 in division. Each week you’re proving doubters wrong. But how do you feel the season is going so far?

Parks: We are coming together as a unit. When we do that we tend to connect better on the field, and that allows us to perform at a high rate.

SES: What sort of challenges do you seen in this week’s opponent Starkville?

Parks: From a defense standpoint, I feel like we are facing a pretty solid offense. They have a good backfield, an above par receiver core and the o-line isn’t bad either. I feel if we handle our individual assignments, read our keys and all 11 guys run to the ball, we will be dominant and have a lights out game.

SES: Replacing QB Braden Smith from last year was always going to be tough, but you guys are still putting up big points this season. What are your impressions of the offense thus far?

Parks: Hard work is always rewarded. And I know the 11 guys that start every drive for us are dependable. Being at every workout every morning shows the total buy-in, and because of that we are able to count on each other to get the job done.

SES: You’re a senior now and you’ve been through the region 2-6A grind a few times now. What’s it going to take for you guys to successfully navigate this difficult division slate?

Parks: Being able to answer positively to adversity. Every game something will go wrong, and if we rise when our backs are against the wall then we will go far.

SES: Y’all are talented at each spot on the defensive side, but what are the strengths on that side?

Parks: Our strengths are being able to play as a unit. And being able to execute, whether its taking on a guard to free the mike to make a big play, or squeezing on a tackle and being an edge player.

SES: Now that you’re a senior, what all does your role on the defense entail?

Parks: My role is to do my job no matter what the play is, and run to the ball. I feel like as a whole defense, we run to the ball well and get the job done.

SES: What makes y’all the strongest contenders in 6A this year?

Parks: Team chemistry. We all do well with each other and we have a strong brotherhood. I feel like that’s why we are able to unite and ball out together, giving it all we got.

SES: If you could listen to one song right before kickoff, what would it be and why?

Parks: Swag Surfin’ by F.L.Y.(Fast Life Yungstaz)

SES: What’s something people would be surprised to know about you?

Parks: That without God I am and nothing.
