Coverage Breakdown: Saltillo @ Amory
Players to Watch
JJ Jernighan | RB
Jernighan was apart of the two headed Panther rushing attack with Monzavier Latham that propelled Amory to an impressive 11-3 record last season and a deep run in the 4A playoffs. With Latham gone, JJ will need to be the feature back alone for the Panthers in 2017, if he can duplicate his 18 touchdown 2016 campaign then the Panthers will have a great chance of having another deep playoff run.
Immanuel Jones | WR
Jones finished the 2016 season 2nd in receiving yards with 415 and 2nd in touchdowns with 4. With Hakee Rainey graduating, Immanuel will need to assert himself as a premier receiver for the Panthers in 2017. At 5'7 160, Jones plays with a chip on his shoulder that is evident in the way he plays.
Tamarcus Hardy | DB
Hardy will play in a bigger role in 2017 as one of the Panthers key secondary leaders, Tamarcus showed off his impressive athleticism at the Fortius Project this past spring. He has a knack for making big plays in the secondary.
Tytus Heard | QB
The dual threat Quarterback had a very impressive performance in the Tigers big Season Opening win over North Pontotoc. Heard had 153 yards on the ground and 123 yards through the air, along with 5 total touchdowns in his first career start. The Tigers will go as Heard goes this season.
Dontell Young | RB
Young shared carries last season with Kane Wilbanks, but he will be the premier back for Saltillo in 2017 as he and Tytus Heard lead the offense. Young had 89 yards on 19 carries in the big win at North Pontotoc.
Brady Butler | WR
Butler was Tytus Heards' favorite target in the 36-28 week 1 victory. Brady plays bigger than his 5'7 155 pound frame. He led the Tigers with 127 receiving yards on only 3 catches, two of which were touchdowns. He will be a key factor in the Saltillo passing attack moving forward.
Keys to the Game
* With Saltillo coming off arguably their biggest win of the Pat Byrd era, it will be interesting to see how the Tigers react to this success.
* Amory will be looking to get their offense rolling after only scoring 7 points in their loss to Desoto Central, it will be key to get JJ Jernighan rolling offensively as he is the key to the Amory offense.
* Another big key will be if the Amory Defense can contain the dual threat Tytus Byrd.
JJ Jernighan | Amory
Jernighan is one of the top running backs in the State, and he is due for a breakout game for the Panthers.
