Bolton Ready To Unleash On 2017 Season
Jon Bolton has been clipping away for about six yards a carry his entire career. That stat, in a way, defines Bolton as a football player. He is steady and dependable. He is consistent and tough. When the game is on the line, he is the kind of player you will want with the football in his hands.
Bolton is poised to have a massive season in 2017 for Purvis High School. His play, along with wide out C.J. Bolar, could have the Tornadoes in the driver’s seat early.
SES checked in with him to get an update on how spring went and what is to come for Purvis and their star running back.
SES: How was spring ball? How are things looking right now?
Bolton: “My spring was good, but I still have a lot to work on. As a team, I know we can be good. We are starting summer workouts soon and that's our chance to get better.”
SES: You guys had a solid season a year ago. How hungry are you all to get back onto the field this fall?
Bolton: “Very hungry. One of our main goals set is to go farther than last year. With our great leadership, a team effort, experience, our grind and goals set there is nothing that can stop us!”
SES: I had the chance to cover a game at Purvis a season ago. The atmosphere was electric. What is it like to be a Tornado?
Bolton: “Oh it's great. We are like a family here. It's a football school and I'm playing for a legendary coach. How greater can the atmosphere be?”
SES: What are the goals heading into the 2017 season?
Bolton: “Like every other high school football player, I want a ring but for a personal goal I'm going to set a big one…rushing for over 2,000 yards.”
SES: How do you want to be remembered?
Bolton: “A person who gives his all for the team. “A leader who gives 110 percent in practice. I will go back to one of Walter Payton's quotes when he was asked this same question. ‘A winner, one who has given his best effort, tried the hardest they possibly could have and has utilized every ounce of energy and strength within them to accomplish something’.”
