Coverage Recap: Petal 14 | Brandon 10

Brandon rolled Petal back on October 7. The Panthers never had a chance as the Bulldogs routed them by a score of 42-14. Last night was a different story. The Panthers played lights out defense and error free offense on the way to punching their ticket to the South State Championship for the second year in a row.

Early in the game, Brandon made a mistake on an attempted punt that set Petal up with great field position. The Panthers cashed in with a touchdown pass from junior quarterback Jordan Wilson and Petal would hold the lead for the remainder of the contest winning by a score of 14-10.

In similar fashion to the 2015 season, Petal has been counted out time and time again. They lost four games this season and snuck into the playoffs. The 6A South belonged to Brandon. After last night, all of the projections are out of the window and Petal is in the driver's seat.

Stephon Huderson was kept contained throughout the first half but when time came to run the clock in the second half, the senior leader stepped up and got the job done. He finished with over 140 yards rushing including a huge touchdown late in the game.

The Panthers will face Pearl, another unlikely, in the South State.

Player of the Game:

The Petal Defense: These Panthers were all over the field. They swarmed the Brandon offense and never once allowed them to find any sort of rythmn through the air or on the ground.
