Coverage Breakdown: Shannon @ Lafayette

4A Playoffs: Round 1

Players to Watch

Shannon Red Raiders (6-4)

Kegan Huddleston- The 1000 yard rusher has good size and speed that can cause a lot of trouble for the Dores’ Defense. He has put together a solid career and will be at his best with the season hanging in the balance.

Vincent McIntosh- 300 pounds of awesome. The big man can run through and away from defenders and has done so for 636 yards with 11 touchdowns this season. He is also capable of causing serious problems for offensive lines.

Jerry Marion- The sophomore has exploded onto the scene this season and has led the team in receptions with 41 and receiving yards with 487.

Jordan Gilleylen- The future is bright for the sophomore gunslinger. At times this season he has looked like a season vet. Gilleylen has thrown for 1,490 yards this season with 12 scores.

Lafayette Commodores (8-2)

Will Ard- The senior quarterback has limited his mistakes this season and has done a great job of distributing the football.

Jamarcus Quarles- The junior running back has powered his way to 1,555 yards a game with 12 touchdowns. He runs low to the ground and has been very difficult to tackle this season. He has gotten stronger as the season has progressed.

Brandon Turnage- Turnage can do a lot of a lot. He is one of the better cover defensive backs in the state and also a serious threat with ball in hand.

Amani Johnson- The senior leader has been a force all season long from his end position. His ability to shake the confidence of opposing quarterbacks has helped the Dore’s stifle passing attacks before the ball is even thrown.

Keys to the Game

Lafayette will need to stick with what has been working for them all season long. They play physical football and that is what has separated them from the rest of the pack.

Shannon will need to play error free football on the offensive side. They have the playmakers to find the endzone but cannot afford to have missed opportunities.

This will be the first somewhat cold game of the year and it is a big one. Winner moves on and the loser trades in their cleats for basketball shoes. Expect everyone to be giving their all.

X-Factor

Brandon Turnage:

Turnage can score a lot of different ways. He will have a chance to blow the game wide open tonight, whether it be on offense, defense or special teams.
