What We Learned Last Night
So…Willie Gay can run the football.
With their backs against the wall and the number two team in the state looking to knock them through it, Starkville lined their star linebacker Willie Gay up at quarterback and put the game in his hands. The result: 40 carries for 319 yards, five touchdowns and a huge win.
South Panola shuts down Columbus.
The Tigers struggled out of the gates with a very young team but have since been lights out on defense. In their six region games, the Tigers are giving up just 5.5 points per game. If the offense catches up with their defense then the Tigers WILL win the 6A crown.
Noxubee County flattens the Hilltoppers.
Last night the Tigers reminded everyone that had forgotten that they are the two-time defending 4A State Champions. They rolled Houston 41-7 to claim the district crown and will riding a wave of momentum into the postseason.
Madison Central playing good at the right time.
The Jack Walker led Jags are playing as good as anyone right now and will hope to close out the regular season on a six game winning streak that includes wins over Warren Central, Starkville and Northwest Rankin.
PCS and MRA will chill next week.
The top ranked Bobcats and the Patriots earned first round byes while Jackson Prep will face rival Jackson Academy and Parklane will go up against Copiah in the quarterfinals of the AAAA-I playoffs.
Brandon set for Region Title Game with Pearl.
Brandon have almost climbed all the way back to their top ranked spot after dropping two games in a row earlier this season. They will have a tough rivalry game with Pearl to close out the regular season before jumping into the wild wild 6A postseason.
