Coverage Recap: Bruce 24 | Okolona 12

The Bruce Trojans clinched a playoff berth on Friday night with a win over division-rival Okolona. Bruce came into the night needing a win to clinch a post-season berth, while Okolona needed both a win and a loss by either Eupora or Winona tonight. The game was dominated by both defenses early in the first half, and the first score came in favor of Okolona off of a pass from Jacob Moore to Jacorrius Standfield. At halftime, the score stood 6-0 in favor of the Chieftains. Following halftime, both offenses saw signs of life. Both teams scored on their first possession of the second half, which made the score 12-8 in favor of Okolona. The Chieftains, however, wouldn't find the end zone again. The momentum shifted drastically to the Trojans' favor when Bruce's Trent Hall intercepted a pass and took it to the house for a touchdown. During the following drive, Hall intercepted another pass to halt a Chieftain drive in Bruce territory. Both teams relied on their running games throughout the evening on offense, and Okolona relied heavily on screen passes. Senior Lemarcus Echols carried the Trojans late in the contest as Bruce worked towards scoring their final touchdown while burning time off the clock. Okolona's Jacob Moore was effective at finding his speedy receivers on short routes to get them in the open. Okolona finishes the season 2-8 overall and 1-3 in Region 4-2A. Bruce improves to 4-7 overall and 2-3 in Region 4-2A, which they will represent as a number four seed in the playoffs. Player of the Game: Trent Hall (Bruce)
