Coverage Recap: Smithville 54 Vardaman 30

Smithville has a loaded roster, and it showed on Friday night. Senior running back Dee Moore rushed for over 200 yards and was accompanied by a big night from quarterback Heath Noe as Smithville topped the Vardaman Rams 54-30. Noe found Wesley Grier and Dustin Moffett on numerous passes throughout the evening as they eluded Ram defenders. The Ram offense managed to put up points on the Seminoles thanks in large part to three touchdown passes from Trae Owen to Brandon Washington. Patrick Pratt also found the end zone with a rushing touchdown, and Owen converted a 38-yard field goal. The Rams' offensive prowess, however, wasn't enough to counteract Smithville's firepower. This game has implications on the 1A playoff picture, as both teams had already clinched postseason berths coming into the night. Smithville now sits in prime position to win the Region 1-1A title, while the Rams are vying for a 3 or 4 seed spot. Two seasons ago, Vardaman didn't win a football game. Now, they find themselves in a playoff spot. Smithville has continued their recent history of playing at a high level and has a great opportunity to make a run in the postseason. Smithville (7-2, 5-0 Region 1-1A) travels to county rival Hamilton next week for another region matchup. Vardaman (6-4, 4-2) has a BYE week next week before playing host to Hamilton on November 4 to close out the regular season. Players of the Game: Dee Moore & Brandon Washington
