Coverage Recap: Poplarville 38 Purvis 6
The setting for a huge 4A match up was perfect. The forecast for the SES Game of the Week may have called for clear skies however, around 7:00pm the clouds rolled in and lightening began to strike while thunder rolled.
The thunder came in the form of Poplarville junior running back Austin Bolton and the thunder was none other than senior bruiser Jesse Pernell. The pair was unstoppable, racking up 321 yards, as they led the Hornets to a huge 38-6 win over a good Purvis team.
Even with outstanding players like Jon Bolton and CJ Bolar, Purvis could not get anything going and only managed 16 yards of offense in the first half and did not even crack 100 total yards for the game.
Poplarville showed they are very much deserving of their spot in the SES Top 10. They will now have a top seed heading into the postseason. Their offense is electric and their defense showed that they are capable of shutting down a high-powered offense. It will be interesting to see how they match up against a true passing team like the St. Stanislaus Rock-a-Chaws.
Poplarville lost the first game of the season to 6A St. Martin and has since rolled off seven straight wins and will conclude their season next week with Columbia before charging into the postseason.
Players of the Game:
