Coverage Recap: #5 Brandon 42 Petal 14

Two of the top teams in the state squared of Friday and from the get-go, it was all Brandon Bulldogs. It was 35-0 before Petal even answered back with points of their own. Too little too late, however, as Brandon rolled to a 42-14 win.

Brandon is talented and experienced at just about every position, but are specifically dominant in the secondary and at running back.

In the defensive backfield, Brandon has 4 guys who will all play football in college. Senior Schdarren Archie (6’2), Senior Rodney Hawkins (6’1), Junior Booker Ficklin (6’1), and Junior Trey Proctor (6’0), provide an elite and very large secondary. That was crucial for the Bulldogs as they faced Petal’s large wide receivers: Nataurean Watts (6’1), Marquise Bridges (6’2), and Natorian Watts (6’4).

At running back, Brandon has a three-headed monster in Senior Vincent Butler, Senior Corey Proctor, and Junior Jordan Willis. They rotated in and out the entire game in order to stay fresh and each one picked up right where the other left off.

Senior QB Brady Anderson had a nice connection going with Sophomore WR Jonathan Mingo. The two connected on 2 touchdowns and were difficult to stop all night.

Talented Petal running back Stephon Huderson did as much as he could against the stout Brandon defense, but just couldn’t find any space to break through. He would end up not playing the second half because of an ankle injury. It is unknown when the injury occurred.

Players of the Game:

Brandon- cornerback Rodney Hawkins

Petal- running back Xavier Yancey
