Coverage Recap: Pontotoc 38 North Pontotoc 0

On a beautiful night in Ecru, Mississippi at Viking Field, it was the Pontotoc Warriors who took no prisoners on their way to a 38-0 win over rival north Pontotoc. It was dubbed the Battle of the Brutes and the crowds came out in full force for both sides. It didn’t take long for the Warriors to gain control, momentum and begin rolling.

The Pontotoc offense has been the talk of 4A North thus far this season and it lived up to the hype. They can move the ball in big chunks and in a hurry. They do it on slashing runs from Gabe Harmon, who racked up 113 yards on the night, and they can do it on both short and deep passes from Jacob Carter.

However, the aspect of this Pontotoc team that came to light on Friday night is that they may possess one of the top defensive units in 4A. Led by Brandon Hale, the Warrior defenders are extremely athletic and never once allowed the shifty North Pontotoc athlete Zay Cullens breathe. They ganged tackled and they were relentless from opening bell to final horn.

If Pontotoc, who is now 5-0 on the season, continues to play with that intensity on both sides of the ball, they will be in the driver’s seat in 4A.

Player of the Game:

Jacob Carter- Carter was lights out and had been all season. He accounted for all four first half scores.
