SES TN: Coverage Recap: Jackson Academy 3 @ Briarcrest 39

In SES Tennessee’s Game of the Week, the Saints of Briarcrest Christian School took care of business, marching all over the Raiders from Jackson Academy (MS), 39-3.

Briarcrest was in control for much of the game. After both teams went scoreless in the first quarter, the Saints took a 14-3 lead into the locker room at halftime, and never looked back.

The Saints looked dominant in all three phases of the game. They scored 39 points while gaining 480 total yards of offense, their defense held the Raiders to only 3 points, and they even recovered an onside kick to open up the 2ndhalf.

The biggest mistake of the night for the Saints came in the 4th quarter when Jackson Academy’s Trent Tyre picked up Briarcrest fumble and took it 40 yards to the house. However, fortunately for the Saints the play was negated by a Raiders penalty.

After that tough first quarter, Jackson Watson was able to lead the Saints’ offense with efficiency, finishing the game 19-30 passing for 336 yards with 3 touchdown passes. Most of Watson’s incompletions came when the Raiders defense was able to force Watson out of the pocket.

The Saints’ two-headed receiving monster of Parker Sherrill and Jake Powers was unstoppable all night. The two combined for 211 yards receiving all 3 of Watson’s touchdown passes.

Briarcrest is now 3-0 on the season and they look like a force to be reckoned with in Division II Class AA. They play at Germantown High School next week, which will be a good test for the Saints, going up against a class 6A program.
