Coverage Breakdown: #2 Clinton @ #1 Brandon
Players to Watch
Clinton Arrows (2-0)
Cam Akers- Akers will be one of the most watched players in the entire state throughout the season. If he does to Brandon what he did to South Panola, we may have a new No. 1 team after Friday night.
Kam White- White has been wearing several hats so far this season. He has an interception and six tackles on defense and has hauled in several big plays for the Arrow offense.
Darius Maberry- He may be off to a slow start but don’t let that fool you. Maberry is capable of going to the house any time he touches the football.
Jacobi Hearn- Hearn can create chaos at the line of scrimmage and keep quarterbacks off of balance.
Darius Brent- Brent is the anchor in the middle for the Arrows. He is leading the team in tackles after two games.
Brandon Bulldogs (2-0)
Brady Anderson- Has been very consistent in leading the Bulldog offense ever since he took the reigns last season. He is capable, and may need to have a monster game in order to take some pressure off of his defense.
Vincent Butler- The senior running back exploded in week one with over 180 yards of rushing. That was slowed down drastically in week two but he is very capable of putting in 100-plus yards week in and week out.
Bo Whatley- The quarterback turned receiver is quickly becoming one of Anderson’s favorite targets. He has great hands and knows how to find the soft spots in a defense.
Lakendrick Jones- Jones will be tasked with keeping containment on Cam Akers. He may not have very many tackles on Friday night but if Akers is held to a rather pedestrian night, Jones will be a big part of the reason.
Schdarren Archie- Archie is the quarterback in the Bulldog secondary. He covers a lot of ground and is capable of making game changing plays with forcing big turnovers or delivering crushing tackles.
Rodney Hawkins- If Akers gets loose Hawkins will be one of the only players on the field fast enough o run him down.
Keys to the Game
For Brandon, it is simple. CONTAIN AKERS! Is that possible? Maybe not but if they can force someone other than the superstar to try and beat them, the Arrows will play right into their hands.
For Clinton, the offense will need to put together drives. They rely on the big play but long drives that end in touchdowns will wear down the Bulldog defense as well as keep Anderson and Company off of the field.
Kam White of Clinton can cause a lot of trouble as a wide receiver and in the defensive secondary. His quarterback has shown his ability to find him on plays that he extends with his legs. Defensively he can cover a lot of area in a short periods time, creating tough decisions for opposing quarterbacks.
Corey Proctor of Brandon is a bruising running back. He can get tough yardage and if he is able to nickel and dime the Clinton defense to prolong drives for the Bulldogs it will keep Cam Akers on the sideline which is a very good thing for Brandon.
