JJ Jernighan Ready To Roll This Fall
In 2015 Amory’s JJ Jernighan was asked to do a lot of different things. He started on both sides of the ball and delivered at every position he lined up. He threw for 374 yards, rushed for 467 and racked up 33 tackles and an interception while playing safety. It looks like his junior season could be even better.
“Summer has been going great,” Jernighan told SES Mississippi. I’ve been working on my footwork and speed and trying to become a better athlete overall. I’ll still be starting on both sides of the ball this season mainly at running back and safety,” Jernighan said.
Amory showed signs of being a great football team in 2015 and did so with a load of young talent that is returning this season with a big goal in mind.
“The main goal we want to achieve this season is to win state,” Jernighan declared.
Jernighan plays very hard on both sides of the ball. He says that drive comes from personal goals he has set for himself.
“I have set my mind on being great and going pro,” Jernighan said. “I don’t want to fail. I want to be the best to ever do this.”
Looking over the schedule and a lot of tough games stand out. When asked who he was most excited about playing, Jernighan gave the nod to the Bulldogs.
“I’d say Aberdeen just because we haven’t beaten them in a while, but overall we are excited to play everybody,” Jernighan explained. “We feel like we can have a very special season.”
Amory has been very active on social media this summer and building quite the following while doing so. They seem to be excited about what the fall will bring and the feeling is contagious.
“This community is great and is always supportive,” Jernighan expressed. “They are behind us.”
Jernighan and the Panthers will be fun to watch this season and SES will definitely be catching a game or two.
