Home Sweet Home For Devin Rockette
With six and a half weeks from the first official day of practice for the 2016 football season, Oxford’s Devin Rockette has made his college decision and is now putting his focus solely on the Chargers.
On Thursday, the speedy defensive back committed to play his college ball at Ole Miss. The decision will put him playing across town from where he currently plays his high school ball.
“It feels good,” Rockette told SES Mississippi. “It feels good to get it off of my shoulders and know that it’s all done.”
Rockette says the decision was an easy one and a dream come true.
“This is where I grew up,” Rockette expressed. “This is where I have always wanted to go play ever since I was a little kid.”
Rockette shined at camps this summer, posting a blazing sub 4.4 40. In early June, the Ole Miss Rebels extended an offer and it only took eight days for Rockette to pull the trigger for the Red & Blue.
He says he and his family are excited that he has an opportunity to hang around his hometown to play his college ball.
“It’s real important to play here in Oxford,” Rockette explained. “It will kind of be the same for me as it is now. I just want to put on for my home.”
Now that his focus is off of recruiting and fully on his final season as an Oxford Charger, he says the goal for the 2016 season is pretty obvious.
“We want to get back to the state championship and win it this time.”
The Chargers have played for and lost the 5A State Championship each of the last three seasons. Will 2016 end differently? Rockette believes it will.
