Brandon's Ricky Myers is STRONGER

Saturday marked the second time in the span of a month that Brandon linebacker Ricky Myers had participated in the Fortius Project. On March 5th at Petal he impressed enough to be named to the All-combine team. This weekend at MRA he was the most impressive player on hand.

The improvements made from drill to drill and rep to rep, and in the grand scheme of the things, from camp to camp is what made him the MVP of Fortius. The meaning of Fortius is better. Better than your last attempt or your last rep or your last game or your last season. Myers exemplified that exactly the way we consider ideal.

“Not winning the trophy at Petal pushed me to work harder,” Myers told SES Mississippi. “For me to come to MRA and win it made me feel good becaue it made me feel like I earned it. It made me feel proud that all the years of work and dedication is starting to pay off. And that I can go out and shine my God given talent that I was blessed with.”

Myers says the turf at MRA “made a big impact on my speed and traction.” The hard work, no days off work ethic he’s been putting in lately paid off, he says. The competitive portions, where he showed to be the alpha dog and leader of the camp, were naturally his personal favorite portions.

“The 7-on-7 was a blast for me. I love playing football and competing with other athletes,” He explained. “I felt like I earned it because I never had a day off even though I wanted to be lazy one day. I had to tell myself that it will pay off at the end and obviously it did.”

The Brandon defensive unit could be one of Mississippi’s best this Fall. Among the many talented players on Bulldog defense, Myers is a leader. His improvement and confidence gained this offseason will certainly only make them better. That’s exactly what the Bulldog linebacker expects for himself and his team.

“I think we are going to be the most explosive and fundamentally played defense in the state. We have some new players coming to replace some seniors we lost,” Myers said. “But my expectations are to lead my defense and team to the state championship. There is no ‘I’ in team, if it wasn’t for my team I wouldn’t be able to make the plays I do.”
