Gladney Continuing To Get Better
Callaway High School is coming off of their second losing season in a row, both coming since their 14-1 2013 campaign. The Chargers are still not lacking for star power and junior defensive back Markel Gladney believes that the team’s talent will lead all the way to a state title in 2016.
“I felt like as a team we didn't have the season we should have with all of the talent we had,’ Gladney told SES Mississippi. “I did feel like some of us had a great season individually with all the attention surrounding some of my teammates. I feel like if we ever get it together we'll surprise a lot of people and possibly win a state title.”
Gladney has racked up nearly 100 tackles over the past two years and in his junior season he added four interceptions and seven pass deflections. As his game has improved, teams have thrown to his side of the field less and less.
The cover corner says he will be working this offseason on getting better for his team.
“I'm going to continue to work hard to help better my team and give them the leadership and effort it takes to win going into my senior year,” Gladney explained. “I hate losing. I also want to catch the eye of some schools and show people that I'm one of the best defensive backs in the state in the Class of 2017.”
Gladney will be competing at several camps and combines over the next several months all leading up to his final season as a Charger.
“The respect for the game, I just love football. I have played football my entire life. I just love to compete and win while doing it.”
