Darrell Henderson is Mr. Elite
The 2014 SES Mr. Elite Award for the top senior football player in the state of Mississippi has been given to South Panola running back Darrell Henderson. Henderson, who was also a member of the preseason SES Elite 10, capped off a remarkable career as a South Panola Tiger by scoring the winning touchdown in overtime against Oak Grove in the 6A State Championship. His incredible speed earned him the nickname ‘The South Panola Flash’. Henderson used his speed and agility to run around and through defenders throughout the season. The bigger the game the better Henderson performed. He averaged over 160 yards rushing per game in the playoffs this season and piled up 196 yards on the ground in the title game that was played on both December 5th and 7th. Henderson finished his final high school season with 2,253 rushing yards and 32 touchdowns. He also put together back to back 2,000 yard seasons for the Tigers and was a part of two 6A Championship teams. Perhaps the most impressive feat Henderson reached came late this season when he became the all-time leading rusher in South Panola history. Although the Mr. Elite award is based off of the senior season, it is hard to look at Henderson's entrie body of work and not marvel at his success. There have been dozens of great running backs that have put on the red and blue for the Tigers over the years, but none have done so and rushed for as many yards as Darrell Henderson, The South Panola Flash.
